A superb piece of aviation history in the form of an aircraft aileron cockpit gauge. Manufactured by Evershed and Vignoles Ltd of London, England and marked “AILERON TABS, No748397. Extremely well made and designed to withstand the rigours of combat with a rugged Bakelite body and curved glass windows. Despite its age and purpose, it remains in superb condition, virtually unmarked with just enough evidence to suggest it was fitted to an aircraft. Both floating indicating needles are moving freely. No damage to the Bakelite or glass, all electrical connectors are present and in working order.
Prior to the outbreak of the second world war Evershed and Vignoles manufactured electrical test equipment but were retasked in the early forties to produce aircraft instrumentation to help with the war effort.
There are no military marks or other part numbers on the piece that I can see to determine its exact age or the type of aircraft it was fitted to, more research will add to this interesting item’s story.
Measuring just over 3 inches square/80mm and has a total depth of 3 inches/75mm.
The airworthiness of this item is unknown therefore is being sold as an interesting decorative piece.
UK mainland shipping is included in the price. Collection from our Derby warehouse is available.
