Near perfect and dating to the beginning of the1900s. This matching cup and saucer are in exquisite collectors' condition. Made of fine bone China in a soft fluted form with lightly embossed rims. The Royal Crown Derby factory, based in Derby, England, had a number of very talented artists at this time. The creator of the beautiful floral decoration on these pieces was delicately executed by their very best: the renowned artist Cuthbert Gresley. His fully signed work is of equal high quality on both cup and saucer and sits perfectly with the light blue Eau de Nil border and pure white fine bone China ground. The crisp, detailed gilding sets both pieces off perfectly.
The pattern is Rosemary, Celedon and numbered to the reverse of both pieces ”A277” along with the Royal Crown Derby factory mark in red, dating the pieces to the start of the 1900s.
There are no chips, cracks, hairlines, repainting or repairs on either piece. The cup rings perfectly. Neither piece has cutlery marks or any signs of use that I can see.
I acquired them as a pair over twenty-five years ago and have cherished and admired them in my home ever since. They are simply beautiful!
They measure:
Cup: 2 1/2 inches tall 3 inches in diameter at the rim. Or 60mm x 75mm.
Saucer: 5 1/2 inches in diameter or 140mm
