We are excited to announce that this superb tethering stone has been sold and is now embarking on the next phase of its journey. A wide selection of industrial and decorative architectural pieces is always available.
When I acquired this interesting farming piece a number of years ago, I was informed that it was for tethering young lambs whilst they were being bottle fed.
Very simple in design: a small block of Derbyshire Grit stone with a steel ring held in place and secured by a lead plug. But that simplistic rural approach has stood the test of the centuries. According to the farm owners it is at least 200 years old! I have no reason to doubt them.
I really like it as it has such a naive functional charm more so as the steel ring is still as secure now as it was the day it was put in. Wonderful!
As it is of small proportions and reasonably heavy it will make a wonderful doorstop in a farmhouse or rural setting.
Measuring around 9 x 7 x 5 1/2 inches or 230 x 175 x 140mm
