This is a nice lead worker's Soldering iron. Large in size, it is a substantial tool. It is in as good a condition now as it was when it was made. These were and still are used to melt lead when fabricating joints in lead work, such as roof gutters or decorative work, garden planters and hoppers.
This piece features a large , copper-shaped head for applying heat to specific areas. Copper was used as it retained heat for a longer period, extending the working duration.
It has been lightly cleaned to bring out a nice, even patina. The wooden handle does not have any repairs or signs of woodworm.
Unfortunately, there are no manufacturer markings, but it is likely to date from the 1930s.
Simply a great piece of industrial history that would look good displayed in any creative setting.
Measuring around 15 inches in length overall. The copper head is 4 1/4 inches at its widest point. Or: 375mm x 110mm.
UK mainland shipping is included in the price. Or a discount is available for collection from our Derby warehouse.
