Manufactured by Steiff in the Georgian style. Of Squat form, the type sometimes used on board ship to avoid ink spillages in rough seas, it is an attractive and robust piece made from solid Pewter. It has a hinged lid with a lift-out central dipping well and three holes for dipping pens. It sits wonderfully on a desk. It is marked to the underside: “STEIFF PEWTER” and inside an engraved oval: “WILLIAMSBURG RESTORATION 4 CW XX” and “CW78-11” below.
It is in perfect unrestored condition without damage, resoldering or repairs of any kind. It has very light surface marks to the underside.
I'm not sure of its exact date of manufacture and don’t think it is of great age. It was probably made around the 1950s. More research is needed on this very beautiful and interesting piece.
It measures 122mm in diameter x 62mm high.
UK mainland shipping is included in the price. Collection from Derby is welcome.
