A wonderful and totally original Stevinson Hardy and Co. Ltd enamel oil sign. Owned and enjoyed by myself for the last thirty years, this sign is in great condition apart from a missing section of enamel mainly to the letter “O” of oil, probably done on removal from a garage wall. It is also difficult to fault for a sign of such age and has very few other blemishes or chips to the vitreous enamel finish. It has clearly always had a sheltered life which has helped the navy blue and yellow enamel retain its original shine and rich, vibrant colour. Unusually, all of the smaller lettering is unbleached and clear. 

Probably dating from the 1950s it has the old style four digit telephone number.

The smaller text reads:  

“TELEPHONE LIVERPOOL CENTRAL 8536/7” 

“IRWELL CHAMBERS WEST FAZAKERLEY STREET LIVERPOOL 3” 

Free from repairs or repainting it is ready for display.
