We are excited to announce that this superb pair of secateurs have been sold and is now embarking on the next phase of its journey. A wide selection of vintage garden tools is always available.
Beautifully made and bearing the clear maker's stamp of “William Marples and Sons Sheffield,” these were once the pride and joy of a Victorian gardener and would have been a very expensive purchase. They came into my possession from a horticultural museum, where they had been on display for many years.
They are in superb condition and, despite being cleaned, still retain lots of their original patina. I have used these secateurs briefly, and although extremely sharp, I would think they are best now for display purposes as there is evidence of a little play between the blades, and more so with the safety locking lever, making it a little difficult to trust. The unique spring-designed handle still works as it should to keep the jaws open.
These are wonderful secateurs and a joy to hold in the hand. A very beautiful and tactile piece of gardening history.
Measuring: 8 inches x 2 inches when closed. Or 200mm x 50mm
