This splendid New Pennsylvania, side wheel, push lawnmower was designed in the United States but manufactured under licence in the UK by LLoyd Lawrence and Co, Worship Street, London in the early 1900s and came to me from a farm museum that was sadly closing down. It had spent its working life in a large stately home before being saved and restored by the museum to a very high standard and then exhibited. I have used/tested it on my own lawn and found that it performed amazingly well. It has a large 18 inch (46cm) cut and to my surprise the six blades on the drum are razor sharp and it is set up perfectly for a nice even cut.
I believe that apart from new paint work it is totally original, even the hickory handle and rollers have survived intact and without woodworm attack. It is a wonderful piece of horticultural history and looks amazing in it’s stunning red and green colour scheme with raised lettering on the cast iron casings picked out in gold.
It does not come with a grass box, if indeed it ever had one. It works beautifully so could be put back to work or just enjoyed as a fantastic piece of British engineering.
Standing around 52 inches tall or 132cm and 24 inches wide or 60cm.
