A really nice high-quality cabinet makers Mitre Jack. Unusually made from Mahogany and very expensive in its day, it clearly belonged to a master craftsman. It is a beautifully tactile piece that still moves with precision as intended. The stunning, hand-carved wooden threads on the handle are still in great order, with only a few nicks evident. It has substantial brass fittings that are nicely patinated but would polish up if required.
With a little attention, it could be reused for its intended purpose. I believe there were once additional guides between the rails to steady the sliding section. These could be replaced if needed.
It is in wonderful condition despite its many years of use in a carpentry workshop; it is free from woodworm and repairs, but as you would expect, it has many nicks, scrapes, and dings.
I really like this piece and display it in my home. I have added many pictures to do it justice.
